In an all too rare display of industry solidarity, Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton has openly complimented his competitors, declaring both Sony and Microsoft as equally important in the business of promoting game development and “providing the extra tools for developers and help them experiment and explore new ideas and concepts.”<\/p>\n
His comments were expressed during the recent Learning Without Frontiers<\/a> event in London. The big idea, according to the event’s website, is to bring together “leading disruptive thinkers and practitioners from the education, digital media, creative, technology and entertainment sectors to explore, share and demonstrate how new disruptive technologies are driving radical efficiencies and improvements for learning whilst offering equality of access.”<\/p>\n And, presumably, make them fight to the death for cash, time-share holiday accommodation, and weapon upgrades. Or maybe talk about Kinect sex games<\/a>.<\/p>\n “As an industry we can provide people with a lot of different options across formats with the view of having something that can appeal to everyone,” Yarnton explained.<\/p>\n There are “really powerful programs and games that come from Sony and Microsoft” that promote industry growth, he added. He also mentioned Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet as a “fantastic example” of this.<\/p>\n So apparently platform diversity is a good thing. Who knew?
