{"id":93455,"date":"2016-05-31T10:53:28","date_gmt":"2016-05-31T08:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=93455"},"modified":"2016-05-31T12:06:03","modified_gmt":"2016-05-31T10:06:03","slug":"piracy-of-software-in-south-africa-alarming-over-r4-billions-worth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/93455-piracy-of-software-in-south-africa-alarming-over-r4-billions-worth","title":{"rendered":"Piracy of software in South Africa &#8220;alarming&#8221; \u2014\u00a0over R4 billion&#8217;s worth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An alarming amount of South African&#8217;s are using unlicensed software, according to a recent <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/globalstudy.bsa.org\/2016\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a><\/strong> by the BSA.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found that <strong>33%<\/strong> of software installed on computers in South Africa was not properly licensed.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the high number, South Africa is actually on the lower-end of the spectrum compared to other African and Middle-Eastern countries, which boast an average of <strong>57%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are happy to see the rate of unlicensed software use has dropped again. We believe this progress is in part a result of the successful cooperation between the South African government and the software industry, said Billa Coetsee, Chair of South African Committee of BSA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, as the report highlights, the value of unlicensed software in use in South Africa is $274 million (<strong>R4.3 billion<\/strong>), which is very high.
