NPD group has revealed its preliminary report on the top ten selling games in the USA during 2010. The figures are limited to US retail sales, so they do not take into account games sold in Europe and Asia. They also exclude digital game sales, so games bought on Steam and the like will not be represented in their findings. Because over 50% of PC games are now bought digitally, NPD’s sales figures tend to underestimate PC game sales as a whole.<\/p>\n
According to NPD, total game sales in 2010 generated $10.06 billion. This represents a 5% decline from 2009’s total of $10.6 billion. Hardware sales were down by 13% year on year, dropping from $7.19 billion to $6.29 billion. The only category that saw an increase was video game accessories, which climbed from $2.59 billion to $2.93 billion.<\/p>\n

Not only did Activision secure the top spot with Black Ops, but 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 also managed to make the top ten.<\/p>\n
