The latest version of Bluetooth, Bluetooth 5, is due to be announced on 16 June according to a blogpost <\/a><\/strong>by Bluetooth SIG Executive Director Mark Powell.<\/p>\n

This new version is said to quadruple the speeds currently be offered by Bluetooth 4.2 while doubling the range offered by devices.<\/p>\n

The new version will also feature “significantly more capacity to advertising transmissions”, which translates to devices being easier to recognise and distinguish.<\/p>\n

With all of these new additions, Bluetooth 5 will likely require new hardware (although firmware updates have been offered in the past), so expect it to start appearing in mobile devices within the next couple of months.<\/p>\n
