It seemed for a long time as though this day would never come. Duke Nukem: Forever has been given an official release date. <\/p>\n

Gearbox has told GameInformer<\/a> that the long awaited sequel to Duke Nukem 3D will hit retail shelves on May 6, 2011. The game will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. <\/p>\n

Easily one of the longest running jokes in the games industry, Duke Nukem: Forever was originally announced in 1997, befor spending the next decade in development limbo, with many versions coming to light before being scrapped.<\/p>\n

The debacle eventually resulted in developer 3D Realms running out of money and shutting its doors. For a while it looked as though the game was dead in the water, but publisher Take-Two Interactive resuscitated it by handing it over to Borderlands developer, Gearbox, who is adamant that the game will finally see the light of day this year. <\/p>\n

“The moment fans all over the world have been waiting for is almost here,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of publisher 2K. “May 3, 2011 marks Duke’s return as he unleashes his brash and brutally honest wit on the world. His return is going to be epic and one that will make video gaming history!”<\/p>\n
