2016 has been a defining year for smartphones, with a noticeable push towards innovation in design.<\/p>\n

As modular, shatterproof, waterproof 64GB flagships become the norm, we take a look at what is still waiting for us this year.<\/p>\n

Apple iPhone 7\/ Plus\/ Pro<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With an expected announcement in September, we know the new iPhone is coming, we just don’t necessarily know what new features it will boast.<\/p>\n

Rumours indicate that Apple’s new flagship will boast a waterproof design, a D-jack headphone port and possibly a larger, curved screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We do know the iPhone’s internal hardware\u00a0will consist of\u00a0an A10 processor, an embedded M10 motion co-processor, and 2GB of RAM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Expect the Plus<\/strong> and Pro<\/strong> versions to boast even larger screens and more premium features.<\/p>\n

Moto Z and Moto Z Force<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Motorola’s new Z phones will feature “Moto mods<\/strong>“, allowing them to become ultimate modular devices.<\/p>\n

These mods include a power pack to keep your phone going longer, the Insta-Share mini-projector,<\/strong> and a JBL SoundBoost<\/strong> to improve sound.<\/p>\n

The Moto Z is also said to be the world’s thinnest phone<\/strong> at 5.2mm.<\/p>\n

The Moto Z Force promises to be a tougher version of the Moto Z in nearly every way, offering a shatterproof<\/strong> screen and a much longer battery-life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

OnePlus 3<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The OnePlus 3 was announced on 14 June<\/strong> and is actually available to import right now, as the smartphone was immediately put up for sale upon its unveiling.<\/p>\n

The OnePlus 3 boasts a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED screen, 6GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip.<\/p>\n

The phone doesn’t support microSD, but does ship with over 64GB of onboard memory.<\/p>\n

Surface Phone<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A portable version of Microsoft’s popular tablet, the Surface has not yet officially been confirmed, although a recent report by Wired <\/a><\/strong>indicates that it is definitely on the way.<\/p>\n

The Surface is reported to feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, and arrives in either a 64GB or 128GB variant.<\/p>\n

It is also beloved that the smartphone will ship with a Surface Pen, the same stylus used on the bigger Surface tablet.<\/p>\n

Google’s new Nexus<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Unlike Apple’s new iPhone we can’t actually say for sure whether we will see Google’s new Nexus phone later this year.<\/p>\n

It is believed that these new flagships will run the Android N OS and boast a a Snapdragon 820 chip.<\/p>\n

If they do arrive this year, expect an announcement some time in October.<\/p>\n
