SuperSport recently announced <\/a><\/strong>that it would be broadcasting the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ELeague<\/a><\/strong> tournament, making it\u00a0the first local broadcaster to show eSports content.<\/p>\n

While undoubtedly popular, this prompted the question as to whether this was just a one-off deal or if\u00a0we could expect more of this type of content going forward.<\/p>\n

We asked SuperSport’s Clinton van der Berg whether there was any demand for gaming and technology specific channels<\/strong> and where he saw the future of games and tech broadcasting heading in South Africa<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

“The evolution of eSports\/gaming broadcasting will depend largely on the public\u2019s appetite for it,” said van der Berg.<\/p>\n

“SuperSport has only just dipped its toes in the water, so to speak, but we are encouraged by the early feedback.”<\/p>\n

“If this continues, SuperSport is likely to exploit all manner of technologies to ensure world-class broadcasts.”<\/p>\n

“These are early days, suffice to say that we make eSports available via linear, On Demand and streaming. We\u2019ll continue to monitor this space.”<\/p>\n
