{"id":96143,"date":"2016-06-22T17:00:19","date_gmt":"2016-06-22T15:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=96143"},"modified":"2016-06-23T07:36:58","modified_gmt":"2016-06-23T05:36:58","slug":"why-playstation-owners-may-soon-receive-a-r130-cheque-from-sony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/96143-why-playstation-owners-may-soon-receive-a-r130-cheque-from-sony","title":{"rendered":"Why Playstation owners may soon receive a R130 cheque from Sony"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Playstation 3 owners are expected to start <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Sonylinuxsettlement.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">receiving <\/a><\/strong>$9 (R130) settlement offers from Sony, report <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/arstechnica.com\/tech-policy\/2016\/06\/if-you-used-to-run-linux-on-your-ps3-you-could-get-55-from-sony\/\" target=\"_blank\">ArsTechnica<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This follows a court ruling against the Japanese company which held that a 2010 firmware update that removed Linux from the PS3 operating system was unlawful.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally if gamers can prove that they were actually using Linux on their PS3 at the time of the update they could be entitled to a $55 (R805) payout.<\/p>\n<p>The details of the deal are still being ironed out but you can expect banner ads on some of the world&#8217;s biggest gaming sites notifying them of the settlement offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you ever use Linux on your PS3?
