Most PC gamers with high-end in South Africa use Intel Core i5 or i7 processors for modern gaming, as most modern triple-A titles require a 4-core CPU to run optimally.<\/p>\n

However, it is uncertain whether games benefit enough from an equivalent Core i7 processor to\u00a0warrant the increase in price.<\/p>\n

We’ve compared Core i5 and Core i7 gaming benchmarks in order to determine the real difference between four and eight-thread\u00a0gaming.<\/p>\n

Overclock.net<\/a><\/strong> conducted a series of benchmarks testing the performance difference between Core i5 and Core i7 processors, check them out below:<\/p>\n

Physics and Games<\/h3>\n

The results of these benchmark comparisons display a performance deficit that mostly depends on the game being played.<\/p>\n

This makes sense, as different games offload different amounts of physics processing\u00a0to the CPU\u00a0– as seen above by the Core i7’s increased performance in Crysis 3.<\/p>\n

Results<\/h3>\n

Although high-end PC gamers are still better off investing in a top-of-the-range graphics card than upgrading to a Core i7 processor, the eight-thread\u00a0CPU does have its advantages.<\/p>\n

Specifically, a Core i7 processor allows gamers to enjoy better performance on physics-focussed games<\/strong> in addition to newer titles.<\/p>\n

This performance boost is not as significant as a graphics card upgrade, although it could remove a performance bottleneck in some cases.<\/p>\n

With PC gaming pushing the boundaries of gaming hardware, it is only a matter of time before more advanced processors are required for gamers to enjoy new technologies such as virtual reality.<\/p>\n
