A woman has been awarded a $10,000 (R153,500)<\/strong> judgement after the Windows 10 self-updater caused her PC to crash, reports the Seattle Times<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The failed update, which wasn’t authorised by Californian Teri Goldstein, caused her travel-agency to slow to a crawl and\u00a0her laptop to become unresponsive for days at a time.<\/p>\n

When outreach to Microsoft\u2019s customer support didn\u2019t fix the issue, Goldstein took the software giant to court, seeking compensation for lost wages and the cost of a new computer.<\/p>\n

She won. Last month, Microsoft dropped an appeal and Goldstein collected a $10,000 judgment from the company.<\/p>\n

The company denies wrongdoing, and a spokeswoman said Microsoft halted its appeal to avoid the expense of further litigation.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Fortunately, we shouldn’t hear about these Windows 10 horror stories for much longer as the free upgrade offer expires on 29 July 2016<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
