Google\u2019s Project Zero team, a group of security analysts tasked with hunting for computer bugs, discovered a number of critical vulnerabilities in Symantec and Norton security products, reports Fortune<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The loopholes allow hackers to comprise your computer simply by sending malicious self-replicating code through unopened emails or un-clicked links.<\/p>\n

These flaws affect all 17 of Symantec’s currently available products as well as all 8 of Norton’s and are “as bad as it gets”, says Project Zero member Tavis Ormandy.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

An attacker could easily compromise an entire enterprise fleet using a vulnerability like this.<\/p>\n

Network administrators should keep scenarios like this in mind when deciding to deploy Antivirus, it\u2019s a significant tradeoff in terms of increasing attack surface.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Symantec has\u00a0acknowledged <\/strong><\/a>the problem\u00a0and stated that it\u00a0plans to fix the vulnerabilities in future updates.<\/p>\n
