{"id":97604,"date":"2016-07-05T09:19:15","date_gmt":"2016-07-05T07:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=97604"},"modified":"2016-07-05T09:19:53","modified_gmt":"2016-07-05T07:19:53","slug":"amazon-will-no-longer-offer-specials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/97604-amazon-will-no-longer-offer-specials","title":{"rendered":"Amazon will no longer offer specials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a major shift for online commerce, <strong><a class=\"meta-org\" title=\"More information about Amazon.com Inc.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/topic\/company\/amazoncom-inc?inline=nyt-org\">Amazon<\/a><\/strong> is quietly changing how it entices people to buy, reports <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/04\/business\/amazon-is-quietly-eliminating-list-prices.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The online retailer has begun to drop the original list price of items, meaning customers can no longer see what an item used to cost &#8211; only what it costs now.<\/p>\n<p>It seems the move is to help deter dozens of lawsuits the company has faced for offering discounts that appear to be bigger than they actually are.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Amazon began 21 years ago, the strategy was to lose on every sale but make it up on volume,\u201d said Larry Compeau, a Clarkson University professor of consumer studies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was building for the future, and the future has arrived.
