{"id":97946,"date":"2016-07-07T10:16:40","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T08:16:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/?p=97946"},"modified":"2016-07-07T11:24:13","modified_gmt":"2016-07-07T09:24:13","slug":"online-pirates-to-face-10-years-imprisonment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mygaming.co.za\/news\/business\/97946-online-pirates-to-face-10-years-imprisonment","title":{"rendered":"Online Pirates to face 10 years imprisonment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK government\u2019s\u00a0Digital Economy Bill has been introduced to parliament, with the aim of revamping\u00a0copyright legislation, reports <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/torrentfreak.com\/uk-bill-introduces-10-year-prison-sentence-for-online-pirates-160706\/\" target=\"_blank\">TorrentFreak.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This new Bill will\u00a0increase the proposed maximum jail sentence for online copyright infringement from two years to 10 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The plan followed a recommendation put forward in a study commissioned by the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) a few months earlier.<\/p>\n<p>This study concluded that criminal sanctions for online copyright infringement could be increased to bring them into line with related offenses, such as counterfeiting.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Bill is primarily targeting organised file-sharing groups, so casual file-sharers are not likely to end up in prison for a decade<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Do you feel this sentence is justified?
