Marcin Iwi\u0144ski, co-founder of CD Projekt RED<\/strong>, has expressed his company’s views on piracy and copy protection at infoShare 2016, Poland.<\/span><\/p>\n

CD Projekt RED is the developer of the critically-acclaimed Witcher\u00a0series, and is currently working on an upcoming role-playing game titled Cyberpunk 2077<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Iwi\u0144ski stated that CD Projekt RED does not support copy protection, and subsequently has not applied any DRM to its released titles.<\/p>\n

The developer believes that selling the game without copy protection engages consumers who are against both copy protection and piracy, while acknowledging that most\u00a0titles are usually\u00a0cracked soon after release anyway.<\/p>\n

Speaking about the effect of piracy on The Witcher 3,\u00a0Iwi\u0144ski stated that piracy did not dramatically effect the game’s sales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“The piracy factor was irrelevant. We cannot force people to buy things, we can only convince them to do it. We totally believe in the carrot, not the stick.”<\/p>\n

The developer stated that piracy can be caused by a number of factors, such as high game pricing in lower-income countries.<\/p>\n

“We are not supporting copy protection, but we are not condoning\u00a0piracy.”<\/p>\n
