There are a few internet packages which are supposedly aimed at gamers, and some products which claim to prioritise gaming over other internet traffic<\/strong>.<\/p>\n We asked a few of South Africa’s ISPs to\u00a0explain some of their products which claim to prioritise gaming traffic, here’s what they had to say:<\/p>\n We have our Home Uncapped PLUS<\/a><\/strong> package that prioritizes Gaming and\u00a0Streaming 24 \/ 7.<\/p>\n Our shaping system has identified thousands of popular\u00a0gaming networks and sites.<\/p>\n We place priority on the Gaming category, which\u00a0tells the shaping system to deal with Gaming traffic before\u00a0other traffic for users on the PLUS account.<\/p>\n The same applies for our Uncapped Fibre accounts.<\/p>\n We have services which are optimised to perform well for gaming.<\/p>\n We have a range called Home Pro which prioritises gaming (and other) traffic \u2013 this is available over ADSL and the Openserve Fibre backbone.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re a private fibre backbone customer of ours (Vumatel, Fibrehoods, Frogfoot, Octotel), you\u2019re in luck because we don\u2019t shape these accounts at all, and therefore the gaming experience is usually off the charts.<\/p>\n Gaming traffic receives the highest priority across our network . Other factors that can affect experience include the type of game being played and the\u00a0location\u00a0of the servers.<\/p>\n MWEB has invested in a number of servers that\u00a0host games locally, which also improves the overall experience.<\/p>\n We offer\u00a0a range of Uncapped Unshaped Products which will offer the most amount of flexibility in terms of managing bandwidth resources.<\/p>\n Since gaming receives the highest priority on our full product set, these products\u00a0would be ideal for the advanced bandwidth user.<\/p>\n There are service providers\u00a0advertising unshaped services with priority given to gaming, which does not make sense.<\/p>\n You can’t prioritize one protocol over another without shaping it. \u00a0After the latest IPC price reduction our services are truly unshaped, meaning\u00a0every protocol has equal priority.<\/p>\n Another point is that you only have to prioritize traffic in overly-contended environments.
