No local dedicated servers for Gears of War 3

8 March 2011

NOOOOO! We’ve just received topside confirmation – via the guys over at XboxGaming.co.za – that local gamers won’t be getting dedicated servers for the incoming multiplayer beta of Gears of War 3, nor the full game launch in September.

Epic announced last year already that the third game would be getting dedicated server support to resolve long-standing issues with latency, although it’s not clear whether options will remain in place for private hosting. If not, South Africans are going to have to hook up onto international servers to get their curb-stomp on, which will – in a hilarious twist – do absolutely nothing to resolve those long-standing issues with latency.

In related news, Microsoft SA has also announced that anybody who passed up on Bulletstorm can still grab a ticket to the multiplayer beta in April by preordering Gears of War 3 through participating retailers (Kalahari and BT Games).

Although package contents have not yet been confirmed, the pricing is as follows:

•    Standard Edition – R699.99
•    Limited Edition – R849.99
•    Epic Edition – R1299.99
