Blizzard silences toxic Overwatch players on Xbox Live

21 September 2017

Blizzard has released its latest update for Overwatch, which includes a new mechanic to fight “toxic” players.

The patch adds the Junkertown escort map along with various hero updates, and includes the automatic muting of toxic Xbox Live players.

Overwatch players on Xbox who have earned the “Avoid Me” reputation due to bad behaviour will remain in the same matchmaking pool as other Overwatch players, but will not be able to use in-game voice chat.

Over 480,000 players have been disciplined for bad behaviour to date.

The addition of mechanics to fight player toxicity detracts directly from the amount of time spent actively developing the game, and players were urged to improve their behaviour.
