Ten years after Lollipop Chainsaw was released, it has surprisingly been revealed that a remake for the title is in the works.
Yoshimi Yasuda, the director and producer of the original game, revealed that the remake is in development and is on track for a 2023 release.
However, Yasuda stated that the remake will feature several changes to the original.
The new game will feature new music as not all of the original game’s 16 licensed songs can be used this time.
Along with that, the game will be available on a wider range of consoles, allowing the new Lollipop Chainsaw to have a “more realistic approach to graphics this time”.
Notably, the staff that worked on the original game are also now working on the remake.
Lollipop Chainsaw was first released in 2012 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and sold over a million units worldwide.
The game is an over-the-top hack n’ slash title starring cheerleader zombie hunter Juliet Starling fighting zombies in a school in California.
The original game received middling reviews from critics but was well-liked by gamers who enjoyed its over-the-top flair.
It will be interesting to see how the remake does in the current gaming market.
Below is the announcement letter.
