Forza 4 March DLC – Pirelli car pack review

17 March 2012

It’s DLC time again at the Forza 4 camp with the launch of the March Pirelli car pack.

The relationship between Pirelli and Forza Motorsport brought us the advanced tire and handling simulation found in a game. That alone sets the bar high regarding the expectations of which cars would make the cut this time round.

The host of cars in this month’s line up include:

  • 2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato (Villa d’Este)
  • 1971 Ferrari #2 Ferrari Automobili 312 P
  • 2012 Ultima GTR
  • 1969 Chevrolet Nova SS 396
  • 2010 Renault Clio RS
  • 1966 Ford Country Squire
  • 1995 BMW 850CSi
  • 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV-6
  • 2011 Wiesmann GT MF5
  • 1969 Chevrolet Corvair Monza

The selection of vehicles in Forza’s car pack DLC can be questionable at times, but as the title states, it’s a Pirelli car pack and the DLC showcases all types of handling characteristics. However, I really don’t see the point of the 1966 Ford Country Squire station wagon being in the car pack. Racing it makes me feel like a “late-for-class” geography teacher.

On the plus side, it was nice having some rare racing pedigree such as the 2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato or even the ballsy Ultima GTR.

For all the Tarantino fans out there, a ’69 Chevrolet Nova is included as well; using the awesome liveries editor, I know many will create their very own Death Proof movie car look-a-like.

With the 10 car pack comes new additions to the Rivals mode featuring the Aston Martin V12 Zagato.

Conclusion

Forza describes the DLC as: “these ten cars are a must-own for Forza Motorsport 4 fans.”

I’m not blown away by the selection of cars – I’d suggest buying a previous car pack such as the February American Le Mans Series Pack (ALMS pack) before getting the March pack.

The DLC comes in at 106MB and costs 560 MS Points (a little over R70).

Note: A Season Pass costs 2400 MS Points which entitles you to six add-on car packs at 10 cars per pack and grants you the Muscle Car Pack for free and a more substantial long-term saving of 1520 MS Points.
