At Gamescom 2013 Microsoft announced that every Xbox One console would be launching with a free copy of FIFA 14, as well as exclusive Legendary characters available in card packs purchasable in the game.
Speaking to Eurogamer today (21 August 2013) at the Gamescom expo, a Microsoft spokesperson clarified that the FIFA 14 bundle would only apply for pre-ordered consoles in the 13 launch countries where the Xbox One console will be debuting in 2013.
On top of this, if you haven’t already pre-ordered, it’s now too late to get FIFA 14. Pre-orders placed after 20 August will not receive any free games and it will be up to retailers to work out cheap game bundles to make the Xbox One more enticing.
Xbox fans in other countries such as Sweden may find some solace in a second bundle Microsoft is offering. In Sweden, if you pre-order your console before 20 August 2013, you will be able to enjoy two free unnamed AAA games, presumably ones published by Microsoft.
We are still waiting on news from Microsoft Xbox SA on when we might see they Xbox One in South Africa, and how much it will cost.
The launch countries for the Xbox One that may qualify for the FIFA 14 bundle include:
- United Kingdom
- United States
- New Zealand
Countries previously in the launch list include Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland. It is possible that these countries will be in the second wave of the console’s launch and may qualify for the free two games bundle.
Sony’s Playstation 4 will be shipping locally on the 6 December at a recommended price of R6,299, according to Ster-Kinekor Entertainment. Buyers will receive a free 14-day trial of Playstation Plus which will allow them to play through, and complete, #Driveclub and Resogun.
