Splinter Cell: Conviction freezes consoles – should be fixed

14 April 2010

It has recently come to light that publisher Ubisoft has been investigating a problem regarding the recently released Xbox 360 version of Splinter Cell: Conviction which causes the game to freeze in single player mode.

In the interim the company posted a short term solution to the problem, informing players to “try simply disconnecting from Xbox Live and see if you encounter the same problem”. If this fails to work the team suggested that Splinter Cell owners clear the Xbox 360 system cache using the following steps.

1.    Load to the Xbox 360 dashboard
2.    Choose “System Settings”
3.    Choose “Memory”
4.    Highlight your hard drive
5.    Press “y” for device options
6.    from here just choose to clear system cache

Later Microsoft came forward to announce that the problem had been recitified adding that if players “were seeing freezing in Splinter Cell – it’s been resolved. No need to do anything, just play and enjoy”.

Nonetheless this may not be the best start for a game which has been dogged with controversy since its announcement. The PC version of Splinter Cell: Conviction is due to be release in late April.
