Alan Wake DLC region blocked in SA

3 May 2010

Update

We incorrectly reported that the DLC was region blocked. In fact, copies of Alan Wake bought in SA will not even contain the DLC codes.

Original

Xboxgaming reports that the bonus DLC codes that will ship with copies of Alan Wake later this month will not be redeemable for South Africans.

Once again, we can blame the fact that Microsoft has yet to give South Africa official Xbox Live certification.

Microsoft SA’s Xbox product manager Yvette van Rooyen told XboxGaming that “Legally we are not allowed to put Live content into the Non Live countries… There will be no Live related content in the [Limited Collector’s Edition] version of Alan Wake.”

Microsoft SA recently announced that Live will be in SA “very soon.”

That doesn’t help us now though, nor will it be helpful to South Africans that are already using Xbox Live with false physical addresses as they will stand to lose all their Gamerscore and content that is attached to their current accounts if they move over to South African Xbox Live, should it ever become a reality.
