Alan Wake Lands This Week, Prices Compared

11 May 2010

Alan Wake is easily the most widely anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive to be released in the first half of this year (if we exclude Mass Effect 2, which also has a PC release).

Described as an “action thriller,” and developed by Remedy Entertainment (Max Payne), Alan Wake was initially supposed to be released on Xbox 360 and PC, but last year Microsoft confirmed that the PC version had been put on hald indefinitely.

Supposedly inspired by dark thriller franchises such as Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Lost and Stephen King novels, Alan Wake follows the experiences of a best-selling author, who in order to help overcome his writer’s block, visits the quiet small town of Bright Falls with his wife. Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare when events from a thriller he is busy writing begin playing out in real life.

Early screen shots and video footage have us extremely excited about this game, not to mention early reviews which have been very positive.

With that in mind, we rounded up and compared local pre-order prices on the game.

Retailer Price Delivery fee
BTGames.co.za R629 free
Take2.co.za R585 R30
Kalahari.net R585 free
Zapsonline.com R585 free when pre-order

Update

BTGames has updated their price list. The R715 price tag is for the Special Edition. The regular edition is R645.

Update 2

BtGames has again reduced its listed price to R629.

Original

BTGames was shockingly the most expensive of the lot. For the first time in recent memory, Look&Listen did not carry the highest price, and R585 seems to be the sweet spot with online retailers. Kalahari and Zaps clinch it with their free delivery, although if you live in Cape Town there is always the option to collect from Take2,  thereby circumventing the delivery waiting period.

Alan Wake is officially scheduled for local release this Friday, May 14.
