Xbox One games install sizes add up fast

Over the weekend, some Xbox One consoles shipped out early, and the sleuths over on NeoGAF have been gathering up game install information.

The Xbox One ships with a non-replaceable 500GB hard drive. Storage space can be expanded through external drives, connected via USB 3.0. These can be used for the same functions as the internal drive, such as game installations.

Below is a selection of launch titles and their respective install sizes, as per NeoGAF. Note these aren’t officially communicated install sizes. Where install sizes haven’t been discovered, the game is listed as a placeholder.

This adds up to a whopping 587GB – meaning external storage expansion is pretty much a necessity for any serious gamer. This is before you even begin to touch other media services.

Users have noted that games seem to begin installing the moment the disc is inserted. Games also appear to be playable partway through installation, as evidenced by Call of Duty: Ghosts being playable after reaching 51% of its installation.
