RDR Dethrones MW2 in local Xbox Live charts

Modern Warfare 2 has become a constant in South Africa’s Xbox Live activity charts since it was released last November. Briefly replaced from its top spot by Bad Company 2 at launch, it wasted no time getting back to the number one spot.

The longevity present in the game’s online multiplayer component is indisputable, and it will be a long time before any game replaces it properly.

Having said that, Rockstar’s western themed action-adventure Read Dead Redemption took the top spot in its launch week (May 24th – 28th). Not only did RDR steel the top spot, but according to XboxGaming, there were double the amount of people playing the game as there were playing Modern Warfare 2 over the week.

South African Weekly Xbox Live activity charts (May 24 – May 30)

1. Red Dead Redemption

2. Modern Warfare 2

3. Gears of War 2

4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

5. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa

6. Forza Motorsport 3

7. Super Street Fighter IV

8. Alan Wake

9. FIFA 10

10. Skate 3

Other movers this week were Skate 3 which made its debut at tenth place, and FIFA 10 which re-entered a few spots below 2010 FIFA World Cup SA.  Gears of War 2 shows impressive staying power, pushing to number 3 to replace Bad Company 2.

Call of Duty 4 disappears, along with the recently released Splinter Cell: Conviction.

With not much coming to Xbox 360 other than Naughty Bear in the coming weeks, the current contenders won’t have much in the way of new competition to spice things up.
