Xbox One controller support for PC coming soon

26 May 2014

Microsoft’s Xbox Director of Programming Larry Hryb (a.k.a Major Nelson) has hinted that drivers to enable usage of the Xbox One controller on a Windows PC will be launched “Soon. Very soon.”

Hryb was lurking over on the NeoGAF forums when he replied to a user posing the question.

Back in August 2013, Microsoft said that Xbox One controller PC support would be coming sometime in 2014.

“There is some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller will work with the Xbox One controller,” a Microsoft spokesperson said at the time.

“While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user. We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too – we expect to have the functionality available in 2014.”

It is expected that the Xbox One controller will work on PC via a USB cable, as Microsoft has not made any mention of a wireless PC receiver for cable-free gaming.

I don’t understand why they didn’t design it work from the start. Its a couple of drivers that can just emulate the xbox 360 layout 😛 I’m sure they could have done that in a week. Give us a quick fix then work on a long term solution 😛
