Microsoft has announced that Europe, Asia and most pertinently, Africa, will be getting its upcoming motion-centric controller device on Wednesday, November 10th.
The press release also mentions a “blockbuster line up of games on Windows Phone 7,” as well as new Live enabled titles coming to PC.
Launch games confirmed include Kinect Joy Ride, Dance Central, Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports and Kinectimals. There will be at least 15 launch titles come D-day.
Microsoft revealed local Kinect pricing a few weeks ago, confirming that the standalone price for the device will be R1999, or R3699 for the console bundle which will include the new Xbox 360 S.
Sony’s equivalent product, the PlayStation Move will launch on September 15, and will be priced far lower. Check out our pricing comparison for details, but the ball park figure for the stand alone Move controller is around the R400 mark, making it far easier to justify. Unlike Kinect however, it does not feature full body motion control.
In other recent Kinect news, Microsoft announced that Fable III will no longer ship with Kinect support, although it may be included at a later date.
I got some hands-on time with Kinect earlier this year at E3, and my impressions were that in its current state the device is not likely to appeal to serious gamers, with launch titles (I’m looking at you Kinect Adventures) that closely resemble the shovelware that has given the Wii a bad name.
Microsoft is definitely aiming hard at the casual market with this device, and the hefty price tag will probably prevent most core-gamers from picking it up.
