Microsoft quashes Kinect voice command rumours

24 August 2010

Earlier today reports sourced from MCV UK surfaced, claiming that Microsoft would not be supporting Kinect voice control at the time of the product launch. MyGaming also reported on the story.

MCV UK has issued an update on their story, on the heels of a response from Microsoft who wish to quash the rumour:

“Microsoft has issued the following statement to MCV:

Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010. Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV Shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time.”

MCV is trying to clarify why conflicting information was given to us at Gamescom. Apologies for all the confusion.

There was no response from Microsoft regarding the reports that Kinect Video Chat would not be available at product launch.

The line which reads “We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time” could mean that not all languages will be available at the time of launch.
