Xbox One games coming to HoloLens

HoloLens news

Microsoft recently announced it will bring games to its fancy new AR headset, the HoloLens, using the Xbox One console.

Back in January the tech company showed off its newest toy, which is a sleek, flashy headset with transparent lenses that projects images to your eyes within the real-world environment.

Now, Microsoft sees it as a new medium for gaming, too.

“Gaming and entertainment is going to be critical for HoloLens,” said Xbox boss Phil Spencer at GDC 2015. Microsoft considers HoloLens as a massive platform for games that will be built across Xbox One and Windows 10.

“We see this as a full Windows 10 device with holographic capability,” added Spencer, who also mentioned that the HoloLens APIs will be made available with the Windows 10 gaming SDK.

How exactly the games will be incorporated into the HoloLens headset, and how it will link up with the Xbox One, is yet to be revealed. Perhaps we’ll see some augmented reality Gears of War at E3? We all can dream…
