Microsoft apparently has a limited edition Xbox 360 controller on the cards. This new controller will feature a completely redesigned d-pad, Slashgamer has reported.
The news comes from some Slashgamer contacts whom were present at a Gamestop (an American gaming retail chain) managers meeting, where the info was apparently revealed and confirmed by Microsoft. We’re still in rumour territory then, but word is that Microsoft will be making an official announcement tomorrow (1 September 2010), with accompanying pricing and launch date information.
The gimmick on the new controller will be a ‘pop-up’ d-pad that will appeal to those who prefer the raised feel of old-school controllers. The d-pad can reportedly be rotated 90 degrees and it will then pop up about half a centimeter.
This will likely be a feature that fighting game enthusiasts will enjoy, as the old-school design will make pulling off moves that much easier. How exactly, I don’t know – I suck at fighting games.
