Microsoft’s new Xbox One controller to sport a 3.5mm headphone jack

Xbox One Controller

We’ll have no arguments now: the Xbox One’s controller is easily the best of this generation, just like the Xbox 360’s controller before it.

If there’s one thing Microsoft knows how to do, it’s how to craft a finely-tuned controller, and it’s about to get better.

Thanks to Eurogamer’s keen eyes, it’s been spotted on Microsoft’s own support site that the Xbox One controller has been updated to include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack is easily our favourite change.

Curiously, since then, the updated image has been pulled and the older 3.5mm-less controller diagram is in its place.

And suddenly the 3.5mm jack is removed. Someone at Microsoft made a boo-boo.

We think someone’s leaked the new diagram on Microsoft’s support site earlier than intended. We suspect it was meant for a post-E3 release.

According to the image, prior to its redaction, the 3.5mm jack will “only available on controllers released after June 2015”.

There’s not much more to gauge from the image.

There’s definitely more that can be done to the Xbox One’s controller, but we’ll have to wait for Microsoft to announce that before we’ll know for sure what to expect.
