Gears of War 3 pushed back

1 October 2010

Microsoft has announced that its next sure-to-be big seller has been pushed back a few months, from the previously planned April 2011, to “Fall 2011.” The company revealed that it has “elected” to hold back the third iteration of one of Xbox’s hottest properties for the holiday season. We can now expect the game to launch no earlier than September 2011.

“Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011. The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement early this morning. “However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”

Translation: “Yea, so instead of releasing it when its ready, we’re gonna hype the crap out of it and try milk as many sales out of the holdiay season spending splurge as possible.” Fair enough we say, and at least they are being straight about it.
