New Xbox One UI is faster than PS4

Xbox One November 2015 Update

It just so happens that the latest Xbox One UI is, according to some fairly subjective user testing, much faster than that of the PS4, outperforming Sony’s console in a number of areas.

These new speed comparisons were put together by Reddit user dieklobrille. The results compare the speed of the current Xbox One UI with the pending ‘New Xbox One Experience’ update Xbox One fans are eagerly awaiting.

The tests were performed n the main menu of FIFA 16, following a cold boot of the Xbox One.

The graph below shows these comparisons in a number of different tasks and areas.

it appears that the new Xbox One UI outperforms the PS4’s UI in a number of tasks.  You can also see the speed increase between the old and new Xbox UI, which is amazing to say the least.

However, there needs to be a disclaimer attached to these results, as Reddit user dieklobrille states quite clearly that the results varied, especially with load times, when he conducted more tests.

The above are actually the first set of results. This is just some of what dieklobrille had to say:

Just for testing purposes sometimes I did the same task twice on the consoles – and the results were always a little bit different due to variable loading or delay times. I just wrote down all the times from the very first test. So this is just for fun and nothing that people should take too serious, especially since this is still in Beta. The measurements were done quick and dirty. People may get better or worse times depending on their button click performance, HDD and internet connection.

Unfortunately, the public will only get this Xbox One update in November. At this stage, only Xbox One Preview Program participants have access to the update.

According to Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra, what’s notable about The New Xbox One Experience  update is that it will be powered by Windows 10.

The update will integrate the speed of the OS with the promises that Xbox One features will be up to 50 percent faster.

Even Microsoft’s Major Nelson has commented on saying:

The team has been very focused on making things MUCH faster. Glad to see you like which direction we are headed

Add to this, that Xbox One’s November update brings with it backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games and Microsoft are definitely making all the right moves.

It will be interesting to see what Sony does in response, although they seem very concerned with social features for the PS4 at the moment. Sony really do need to up their game.
