The best places in SA to mod and customize your console

Console Mods

Gaming consoles are not cheap, we buy them and take pride in them. Saying that, sometimes we long for an individuality which consoles lack. They all look the same and there is really nothing special about them.

This can be changed however, as we have a few places in South Africa that make and customize gaming hardware, especially for consoles. I have used a few of them before and I have not been disappointed. With a budget of R300, I replaced my entire DualShock 4 face, put in white buttons, and added a set of aluminium analogue sticks.

Here are some of the best places to get your console hardware modded and customized to really stand out of the crowd.

CC Entertainment

This is my favorite console modding company, based in Johannesburg. If you want anything made for your console in terms of skins and controller tweaks, these guys have it.  You can visit their website and browse the store for what you want, or you can visit them in Fourways and take your hardware with you to get it customized there.

CC Entertainment

They specialize in consoles and controllers. If you want to change the look of your controller, then I highly recommend that you go for the aluminium analogues – as they do not wear-and-tear when clicking in the sprint button over and over again.

You can also get a soft-touch faceplate for your controllers, which provides better grip when playing.

CC Entertainment also have various skins for both console and controllers, sometimes in a pack with a set theme. This means when you buy the pack, it will come with sticker skins for your console and controllers, so they match. Prices are not bad either – the most expensive skin pack will set you back around R300, and mods for you controllers range from R100 – R200.

Gamerskins.co.za

Gamerskins are another great customization store based in South Africa who make controller skins and controller mods. They do a few things differently compared to the other places, as they also make PS4 faceplates and hand-paint controllers. This means that no matter what you want done to your console, they will make it happen.

If you have any gaming hardware like a Scuff controller, they will customize that with your desired decal too. They also make specialized analogue sticks which have different grips and design patterns to provide better support when playing. Normally you would have to use rubber attachable grips to get this look and feel.

They major difference between Gamerskins and the rest of the stores is that they do not use vinyl stickers on their controller designs – they paint them or use hydro dipping, and then the controller is sealed with a coating. This provides a longer lasting look than a sticker, which will start to wear down and peel off with heavy gaming.

Graffiti Skins

Graffiti Skins are more than just a gaming decal store, they strive to make everything and anything prettier. If you feel like wrapping your car, contact them and they will do it. The best thing about them is that PC gamers can get a slice of this decal cake too. If you are tired of your PC gaming case, then Graffiti Skins will measure the case out and make a custom design for you to use.

Graffiti Skins

Graffiti Skins also make laptop skins as well as phone and tablet skins. They also strive to be unique in their designs and make everything from scratch, which will always result in a unique look.
