Comic Books

I've been reading Batman/Superman, really liking the story thus far. Although, the art style in the 1st 4 issues isn't my cup if tea to be honest. But otherwise, it's a good time.

...you don't like Jae Lee? I find his art amazing...but more for stills or portraits rather than action scenes (which might be what is putting you off). He did amazing Ozymandias drawings for Before Watchmen.

The art is great but I dislike its use in terms of action and portraying expressions. Every expression of the characters involved in the 1st four issues seemed minimalist or even regal (which I don't like in action), I guess.

Ja that's what I thought. Heh...regal. That's the best word I've heard to portray Lee's characters. Have some rep for that.

Did you okes see the Marvel movie schedule announced today?

Black Panther, Inhumans, Dr. Strange, Captain Marvel. YUUUUUUUP! http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/28/7085339/marvel-movie-release-dates-avengers-2019

Hey Guys,

Looking for a bit of help here, a mate of mine told me about a series of The Hulk Comics, that sounds like an absolute MUST read... He said the story line is something along the lines of the hulk getting tricked into being sent into outer space and ending up on a planet and becoming a slave/gladiator, and eventually taking over the planet, and then returning to earth to take revenge on the guys that tricked him, mate thinks it was the avengers but not sure...

Anyone read this awesomesauce? And if so could you let me know where to start? and where it ends etc? Mate thinks the story when he returns to earth is World War Hulk... "whistling:

Thanks in advance!

Planet Hulk. Great series, read it this year. You can get it in trade form.

Trade form? You mean Actual paper backs? Sorry not to clued up with the lingo... "whistling:

Planet Hulk is where to start?

Yeah, should be able to get it from most comics shops in a graphic novel, or trade paperback. I got the Hardcover of Planet Hulk, one of the best Hulk stories ever. There's also an animated movie about it which was quite decent.

Ja, trade paperbacks. You can get the hard covers instead, if you want (they are much nicer and cost a little more). Sometimes Planet Hulk comes in two parts, but you'll be able to find it as a single volume. So starting point would be either just "Planet Hulk" or "Planet Hulk: Volume 1".

I went to Outer Limits' new store in Lynnwood Road today. Lekker little place, more focused on board games and table top card games. But I did do some bin diving and got Wolverine and the X-Men #39. That issue has eluded me forever and was the only issue that I needed to complete the entire 42 issue run. I feel good today.

Attention!

MASSIVE sale on Grant Morrison's Vertigo works on Comixology. We3, Flex Mentallo, the entire Doom Patrol run and some more stuff. This is probably a great place to start with Morrison's works. Get in there!

Ja, I took a drive there the other day too. I didn't realise that Outer Limits got so expensive! They have prices comparable to Exclusive Books now. It's a bit of a shame cause it was always my second favourite store for price reasons and because it was close by. I think I'll just stick to Zed-Bees and Cosmic Comics.

What is really nice about the new Outer Limits store is that they have great variety with their board games and they have a weekly board-gaming meeting on Wednesdays where you can come in and play any game that you bring, or one of their demo games.

It's awesome that you managed to complete your Wolverine and the X-men series. I'm looking for issue #17 or #18 (Can't quite remember now) of Supreme Power. It was the last issue printed. I loved that series. I should read it again.

Thanks for the heads-up, I have been meaning to read Doom Patrol. I'm a big Morrison fan and have 90% of everything he's done except for Doom Patrol :D

Their prices seem to be relative to the R/$ exchange rate, where other stores just keep at a flat rate. Their board gaming nights look like fun, I'll drop by one night.

I'll keep an eye out for those two issues, maybe I can find you a copy sometime.

Doom Patrol has been on my list for a very long time. I can't wait to start reading it.

On a different note, I'm starting my comic book project for the course today. Handed in my second written assignment last night, hopefully it goes as well as the first one (I smashed 96% for the first one )

I think Outer Limits do track the exchange rate, but I've seen stuff of theirs priced at 150% of non-specialist suppliers (e.g. Takealot and Raru) which means their markup is huge.

If you do find a copy of the last supreme power, please do let me know :D

Congrats on the assignment! You did flippin' well man. Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon with the course. I started off very keen, but I struggled to get past the second week and then didn't complete the first assignment. Time constraints made it difficult for me and I just didn't make the time. Maybe I'll give it another bash next time the course rolls around (if it does).

I'm sure it'll come around again, as this was the second time and there are a lot of people doing it. I'm loving this course, because I get to learn more about something that I love. Is your brother still doing the course?

He was worse than me with it, he didn't even start! I'll get him onto it next time though. I know that it'll be really important for his studies.

I am ashamed of my family's lack of commitment...

*hangs head in shame*

Ag, it only really works when you have time to put into it. I am a little behind with the lectures, but nothing that I can't catch up with in a night.
