huh? Sage doesn't haven't office near Menlyn afaik? Not within reasonable range of it anyway.

Quite a few financial powerhouses do...but haven't seen Sage there yet?

More towards the east AFAIK... They've got a huge building there. Driving down January Maselela (sp?) towards Lynnwood you pass it on your left.

So I work in a bank (the red bank that's becoming a light blue bank). I'm really blessed to have a great job and work directly for the Group Chief Operations Officer as his chief of staff. The role gives me great visibility across the Group both locally and internationally.

I see a job as means to an end i.e. it pays me a salary which then allows me to care for my family and while I have to work friggin long hours most days, I structure it around my family.

This may sound trite, but be grateful if you have a job and hang on to it, things are really tough out there with many unemployed and if your are brave enough (I'm not) look to start your own business.

I have been relatively successful because I have a great network of relationships in and out of the organisation - meet people, get to know lots of people as these are the folk who may be able to give you your next big break.

meh I quite my job. Was a waste of time no room from growth. So I decided let me join the military in the uk. So been training hard for that.

I'm fine with my current position, but I do not intend to stay it for too long; IT is the field in which I'm set on going to.

This brings in the money for now.

Im planning to start my own swim school in the future, for the time being this job is okay, not really my thing but i work with amazing people.

I really don't enjoy my job, it has it's moments but generally I think the slave building the pyramids had better working conditions. The problem I have is that it's a means to an end. I know I need to spend 3 years here to qualify as a CA and then i'm gonna move, the partners also know that so they are quite happy to get their 3 years worth.

Hopefully in 2 years I can move on to a something where I feel more useful than cheap labour. That or I will start a diving school/ dive charter.

Ag wat... i'm content...

As Fivel says, i'm happy i have a job even if it just barely pays the bills.
I always have this joke in my head when i listen to Jakaranda's Kids Quiz in the mornings, the child says what they want to be when they grow up, i always think in a couple of years time the children will stop wanting to be a doctor or lawyer but just hope for a job when they grow up.

Kinda why i'm working here. I know it sucks and all but I want to give myself the best skills possible when I go hunting for a real job. Jobs are so scarce nowadays you need to put in the time to ensure you stand a chance.

I'm a techie!!! bwa ha...
Joke aside, I really am. my job description is "Junior Tech Support", but since it's just my boss and I, I guess that description is fine. Really happy where I am as I'm learning a crapton (boss is EL's linux guru, takes care of about 60% of the schools here).
The vibe is excellent and the pay is certainly not dismal. I get my basic salary as a result of being on-hand support at 2 prominent schools in the morning, and then afternoons I just need to be available for callouts to our ISP clients (we're also an ISP) that have various issues from mail server maintenance to "my pc won't switch on coz its plugged out", so sometimes busy (busy = money) sometimes not (not = gametime hehe).
Theres room for growth too, as eyes are set on Cape Town and then EL will need to be fully handled...so thats cool to look forward to.
Certainly beats my previous job of assistant office manager where i basically did managers job for 1/4 of the pay while he arrived after 9 and left before 4 :/

I spent 16 years in an IT support role. CHanged companies many times thinking it is the companies making me sad and depressed. Turns out it is the type of work. In the end I was just project managing and tried to keep up technically, but with no varsity degree and nobody willing to risk me in any form of proper management role, I called it quits.

I am now (and have been for the last 3 years) in construction as a project manager. I get to spend time outdoors. I see projects with clear end dates and actually have something tangible to show off. I love it!

Also: boere tan FTW!

I'm not going to vote on the pole as I do not want seem ungrateful, nor overly-happy either.

From this, it would sound like you are in construction and able to make a deadline????? IMPOSSIBRU!!!!!!

IT Application support level3 technician.

Underpaid and all the people rely on me, if I'm out the whole dept crumbles.

Therefore I am looking for a new job that pays double, at least. And obviously declining any counter-offers :)
