Hey Guys\Gals

So just I want to upgrade my GPU, I have a GTX 560 ti was thinking MSI R9 270 or the GB gtx 660.

The R9 270 is better as far as benchmarks go and the price is sweet, but i'm weary of AMD always been a nvidia fan boy, and the extra 10 watts of juice it needs makes me worry about my generic powerman 550watt psu , yes yes I know don't lecture me it came with my chassis and has yet to let me down so im still using it.

Anybody have one of these and want to give some feedback, any suggestions this will be my last upgrade until i buy a new rig, I have a I5 2400 with 8G Ram and the asus 560 TI

I blame DAI and witcher 3 for this ,I just want to be able to run it at least 30 fps on high full 1080P is that so much to ask, i'm not sure how my existing setup is going to run it guess i will find out friday...

Joker it would be nice if you weighed in.

Also(shameless plug) I don't suppose anyone is looking a for a second hand gtx 560 ti :D

Being a green fan myself all these years, I reluctantly gave in earlier this year and got an R9 280X for my new rig. Suffice to say, MIND BLOWN. Don't be afraid to try out Team Red. You won't be disappointed.

I didn't really add valuable comments to help out your decision, but GO TEAM RED!

will be here on Friday...I only started caving into all the hype today

I think you might actually be fine with your setup.

R9 270 not big enough step too be honest. Unless you willing to sell that card to me for R1000 then it's a good idea.

a R9 270 is an ok upgrade, I would much rather look at a 2nd hand R9 280X card.
They can be had for as little as R2500 and for that money there isn't a gpu on earth that comes close.

Just go through the GPU section.

I just checked the Requirements for Dragon Age again and I could have sworn it was higher? Im thinking Its going to at least run on medium to high with 30 FPS unless the crappy DRM is going to kill it.

So Im going to see if I can save up some cash and get a decent card and PSU next year then.

Okay so Dragon Age is ravaging my PC frame rate, anybody playing this with the R9 270 \ 270x or GTx 660 \760 want to report back.

You don't by any chance have experience of running a R9 280X on a 550W power supply? Or know of someone who successfully managed it.
They can pull close to 400W under load and the rest of the system can easily stack 100W so I don't see 550 being feasible.

Plus pushing PSUs that close to the limit sucks in multiple ways anyway.

Judging from what I see with people with SLi setups not even hitting the 48fps mark, that's about what you can expect.
Not much is gonna change until DirectX 12 comes along.

I don't think dx 12 will support win 7 in any case so mantle will gain some ground there. mmm The game seems poorly optimized for sli setups in any case.

Anybody know when the next range of GPU's are set for release next year?

Yup newest driver i can get avg 30fps on open terrain medium settings

I haven't run the benchmark but on my 7850 I'm getting 30 - 50 fps on mixed detail settings, mix of medium and high with mesh on high and textures on ultra. For the most part the fps hover in the mid 40's while playing. This is with the beta drivers.
