Steam Holiday Sale and Holiday Auction coming soon

auction has been suspended due to "gremlins" :)

edit : Extract from steam website :
Sorry, but there have been some issues with Gems and the Steam Holiday Auction has been temporarily closed. The elves are working frantically to get the issues sorted out, and the auction will start again as soon as they're done.

Why didn't you just sell them? Some cards and backgrounds and things go for surprisingly good amounts of money.

Most of the junk in my inventory was up for sale in market since the summer sale. Sudden 3 emoticons get sold within an hour of each other. It was at that stage that I started to suspect shenanigans. So now I've pulled all the other junk and I'll see what I can get in gems.

I'm just happy that it gives me something to do with all that useless trading cards and stuff

I used to sell all my cards, but after a while I decided to crafted 3 or 4 badges to gain backgrounds and so on. I lost interest and now have 2 pages in my inventory full of cards, emoticons, backgrounds and vouchers. I'll sell my stuff again next year to stock up on funds in my wallet for a sale.

G2a.com is like steam sales all year round! But the only game I care about is MGSV: Ground Zero :p not bothered about auction either as I have nothing rare anyway

I don't understand how people have got over 100k worth of gems to bid on stuff. I was gonna a sell a card, and it only gave 22 gems!

So... let's take 200 000 gems and divide that by the average gems per emoticon, 100.
You would need 2000 emoticons!

Say you buy emoticons on the store for $0.03 each, that'll still cost $60... might as well buy it at full price and save $0.01 :p

That's true hey. Something seems a bit off with the whole thing. Except if someone has maybe been collecting emoticons or backgrounds for years and always bought them at $0.01 waiting for a moment like this. It's possible I suppose. But then it would almost make more sense to sell these items than use them to make gems and bid.

Well thanx to this auction, I am rolling in it.

Cards prices went through the roof so to speak... All my wallpapers and emoticons was traded for gems that was traded for card packs over here. Cards got sold and now I have about $30 in my Steam wallet waiting for the sale to begin :)

Why bid and lose when you can just outright buy?

Yeah good move by valve once again. I thought they would have to create some sort of sink to give some valve to all those backgrounds and emoticons.

Your tactic didn't work that well for me. I would have made more money if I sold the background and emoticons on their own. If you get a foil card then it's worthwhile but I just got normal cards. I've got gems and other items left though and will keep an eye on the market.

Did not have the luxury to compare what was better. I had loads of emoticons and wallpapers so I converted them all to gems only to realize that the bids where nuts, so converted the gems back to trading cards of which I sold. Yes I had 2 foils in the pack as well but I also noted some cards where worth way more than others and opted for their packs instead of the cheaper ones.

At least I now have some $ in my steam wallet waiting for a sale, where I just had some useless crap filling my inventory.
