landing gear = insert
Cargo scoop = home
landing lights = L (useful when docking at outposts)
Info/systems panel = 4
Thrusters up/down = R/F
Rotational thrusters = A/D
Horizontal thrusters = Q/E

Can't recall the defaults for the rest as they are bound to my flightstick. Remember the target lock key can select anything in front of you even in supercruise. helps when you see a USS on the way to some station.

Bought a docking computer last night. Its a nice to have if you are multi-tasking or hate docking but i find it too slow. Sold it at the next station and loaded another cargo rack.

Strange my keys are different and I haven't changed anything.

Not really, later might be better (if it goes F2P - which I think it will)

I'm not so sure it will go F2P. With its p2p multiplayer structure its gonng need a major overhaul to make something like that viable. Which means the server maintenance costs increase as the game will need to manage all client actions in the game universe as to where it only now provides system/market data. I've also read somewhere that if it comes to point that they can't afford to run the db server anyone more then FD will release the latest snapshot to the public before shutting down.

The servers are very expensive to run and if their funds dry up they won't have another choice than to try and go F2P and hope that turns the ship around.

After they broke the offline promise I take every promise they make with a kilogram of salt.

That's just the thing though. They will need a better infrastructure to run a mmo style F2P system which will have way higher running costs than the current server. So they wont be able to cut out the box sales without losing a big chunk of money to go towards the increased maintenance costs. They would probably have to start a new kickstarter campaign just to get enough money to overhaul the game and add a P2W, i mean F2P system.

Either way, it doesn't bode well for the longevity of the game which is why I am most upset that they cut offline.

BTW: Game is now updating to 2014.12.18.54398

Well after watching all Jingles' videos and some other pommy blokes videos , about 4 hours worth, I was kinda hooked.

Only downfall will be my keyboard mouse.

Yeah, I was also super excited after watching all of Isinona's videos. If you haven't watched his, watch them while you download :)

Download done it seems.

But pizza is on the way. Will look him/her up. Thanks.
This game looks hectic though, been far too long since a decent space sim.

Yeah, it's a very good foundation - which needs to be expanded upon. My biggest worry would be about the future of the game and how long they can keep the server running.

Honest opinion please guys. Is this game worth the R700+ price tag?
If it develops into the game that has been promised, then yes. US$60 is a fairly standard price point for AAA level games. If, as Wyzak and others, have noted though, there have already been a number of promised features delayed, dropped, or just plain "forgotten" about.

It was a case of Buyer Beware for me when I got in just before launch at R570-odd. I'm okay with that, but I wouldn't be at R700+ post launch.

I'll be firing up the game for the first time today. Any important basic tips that will make life a lot easier?
Also, I have a 360 controller, so it's either that or M&K. What are your experiences with the different control methods? Hotas or joystick the way to go?
The "random" start point for many new players hasn't been all that random - if it's LHS 3447 (Trevick Dock) it's a bit of dead spot. Move to a busier system.

I started with an extra ship so was able to sell that off to outfit my Sidewinder a little better.

Turned out to be a waste of Credits - stripped out most of what I could eventually in an attempt to increase cargo size.

Ran the little Sidey for a while without weapons, shields or a scanner to max out the cargo holds at 8T.

Ended up dropping back to 6T cargo racks when I installed a fuel scoop after running out of fuel too many times. (Buy a fuel scoop if you can - cost is around 350Cr, worth every cent).

Only played in Solo while running without weapons and shields to avoid unnecessary PvP encounters, but still managed to get Interdicted by NPCs a number of times, especially when travelling Anarchy space systems. Managed to get away from all of them except one.

Have stuck to taking only Courier and Cargo Transport type missions, or shuttling commodities if there were no suitable missions available. Did try a Bounty Hunter type mission once, but got hopelessly lost and landed up in a uninhabited system, where I self-destructed before running out of fuel (again!)

I'm aiming to upgrade my Sidey to a Cobra MkIII soon as I can, and going to skip the Hauler in-between. Once the Cobra is in my hands, I'm going to go back to Open play and try my hand at some more combat-oriented missions.

Oh, and keep an eye out on the Commodity Market screens for so-called "Rare" products - they're highlighted on the screen in yellow I think. These are products that are only available at that one specific station and command huge Galactic Average prices. The first time I saw one I assumed it was a glitch in the market system, didn't read the description and went on my way with a load of Tea. The next time I stumbled onto one I realised my mistake, and bought the 6 I could carry (think it was in Altair System). Turns out, if you carry them far enough away from the source (around 140-150LY seems to be the sweet spot) the value skyrockets (even though, as noted, they've heavily nerfed the system already). I bought them for around 450Cr/T, and sold them for over 14000Cr/T! Mind you, I am now so far away from anything worthwhile I may have to change hats into an Explorer for a while :)

Last point - I'm also playing with a 360 Controller, and have had no issues with it at all. It obviously cant handle all of the options and I still need to reach for the keyboard every now and then, but so far all good.
