Morning y'al

For the next 3 weeks in have been transferred to the jhb office. Thankfully I'm travelling by myself and the client is on a gautrain bus route, guess who's taking the train instead of the miserable traffic.

Morning Tydmors and everyone else.

Has electricity prices/rates gone up? I use pre-paid and normall R100 will get me 98kw, now it only gets me 56kw.
That's almost a 200% increase?! I mean I know Eksdom is going bankrupt, but I never heard anything about price hikes.

They go up in August or June AFAIK. Not sure how much your local municipality would tack on to that increase to make themselves some money as well.

But 200% seems huge.

Some people on prepaid say that when they buy prepaid more than once in a month the second time is more expensive.

Morning everyone. So fell asleep early last night cos I wasnt feeling great. Now I am sitting with a sore throat and ears :S

morning, so im feeling like a normal human being this morning was out most of the weekend with a migraine and yesterday was just the worst. the heat was soooo unbearable with a migraine. if i had a gun i would have just shot myself, but luckily the dr was able to give me an injection to stop me from doing that

Hiya folks.

We are on a sliding scale. Depending how much you've already bought in a month, you pay more.
Inaccurate example:
0-100 units = Rx
100-300 units = Rx + Ry
300-500 units = Rx + Ry + Rz
>500 units = Rarm + Rleg

And we don't get 50 units free.

No idea, sorry BeoTek.
I'm still on the old post paid system, been struggling to get a prepaid meter in our flat for ages.

I had no idea it worked like that. I just thought like airtime, you get certain amounts for x monies. Thanks for clarification.

So it would pay for me to rather buy <R250 in the beginning of the month?

Hmmm...every prepaid user is supposed to get 50 free units. Unless you usage over 3 month period has exceeded x (i don't remember what that x is though) if you don't get it you need to contact your local council to query it. Our household uses about 300-450 units per month on average.

However they only way I managed to achieve that is by buying A or higher EU Energy efficiency class products. Fridge and Freezer are both A++, Microwave is A+++; I also switched all my light bulbs to LED (bedrooms and lounge) and CFLs (Hallways, kitchen and bathrooms) combined with a solar geyser. I also added window film to all my windows to reduce heat inside the house, and put that pink crap in the ceiling.

Doesn't matter how many times you buy, but for maximum savings you need to watch your electricity spending towards the end of the month.
For example, if you need to buy electrics and it is about the 29th, only buy enough to get you to the 1st or 2nd of the next month and then go buy again. This is because your usage will already be high and you'll be paying more. If this isn't entirely clear I'll explain with examples using actual mathematics and science and shit

We used to get the 50 units but the council said it was supposed to only be for the poor, not everybody so they stopped it entirely. If memory serves, you can still get it if you prove your monthly income is less than R2000 or R1000 or something along those lines.

Geluk man!

On that note, my mother in law moved in with us after my father in law's death in December. Her one condition was that we have a kid so she can look after it during the day. I've been nagging my wife for a little Farlig, but she said "one day when her parents stay with us"...

So, off to go practice for the main game I suppose. :D

Thanks man :)

Hahaha, enjoy the practice :D

It doesn't always work like that Beo. Some municipalities work like that, others just have a straight Rand vs kWh rate, but other tacked on costs.
When you buy electricity, have a look at the slip that you get with the power coupon code on it. Below is a pic of the bottom part of our slip, where you can see how many kWh's you get at what price. Perhaps you can see something similar on yours.

And yeah, we also don't get 50 free units.

Ahh see its because our usage is high. It isnt at home its at the office. But even when our usage has been very low for a few months we never got the 50 units. But I know my brother's get the 50 units when they buy their power every month - Nima normally gets it on the 2nd.
