Comic Books

I'll admit that Batman - Superman is actually enjoyable :)
I have the first two issues. The art was amazing.
Haven't read much of the new52 stuff but looking to get back into comic reading this year so where should i start (And yeas i haven't reads so much due to work :()
What type of stuff do you want to read?
Jip, same sentiments. After reading one issue with a very young but arrogant Superman I was "Meh, not for me". Glad I got plenty of trades with all my favourite story lines though. It's something you can come back to over the years and still enjoy.
Ja that helps. I just take the DC money and put it straight into Image books.

Well first of all Batman ofc, i like Green lantern power girl Anything With Azreal, Flash Lobo if you can find, Justice league

Marvel i like Deadpool, Ironman, She Hulk, Wolverine, Guardians, Carnage, Venom, X-men

To name a few

Not much from your DC list worth the read. Batman is great, Lobo is also a lot of fun, once you get used to the new look.

The Marvel stuff is all good, but Secret Wars will Shuffle a lot of stuff around and would probably be a great jumping on point.

Seriously, don't bother with DC. It pains me to say that, but they are doing mediocre work with characters that can be so much more.

Anyone else here collecting the Justice League chess set? Haven't opened plenty of mine and wanted to check how far I am. Only 5 more issues to go :) Must say, the Justice League set has some nice detailed pieces. The Doomsday and Darkseid ones are really impressive.

I see the Humble Comic Book Bundle has the Death of Archie in it. I remember Avenged mentioning it was good. Is it worth dropping that money for the bundle? Last time I read an Archie comic was in primary school...

I reckon. I'm not an Archie fan of any sort and I loved it. I can't remember what tier it is, but if it is the first one, you have nothing to lose. It has Francesco Francavilla on art... That guy is amazeballs.

Hmmmm. It's on the BTA tier, which is just shy of $10. For that amount, I might as well drop $5 and get the top tier. Thing is, I don't have that much spare cash for comics I'm prolly not gonna read.

Ah well, will give it a skip then and consider "alternative" means if I get desperate.

You know, it is bound to be on a Comixology sale sometime this year. It'll be like $6 then. I'll remember to send you a message then.

I know this is not a comic and it's a novel instead, but everyone embedded in the Superhero genre of comics needs to read Steelheart, and Firefight (Reckoners #1 and #2) by Brandon Sanderson. The detail, world building, and fleshed out plot you get from a novel, along with the ambitious action sequences that feel like they're straight out of a comic (well, because the series was inspired by the superhero genre of comics).

My short Goodreads review:
Sanderson has done something incredibly amazing in this book. He has essentially taken what could be construed as comic book fare, and he's made it come to life in this novel. From the characters, the world that is crafted in the book, to the high octane action set pieces that play out in a pace that feels just right, along with a meaty plot to dig into.

Steelheart's Blurb:

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics. But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics...nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart - the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David's father. For years, like the Reckoners, David's been studying, and planning - and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He's seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

Jeez, sounds great. Never heard of this before, or the author, for that matter.

It's a really good series. I wonder if Sanderson has ever thought about writing comics. I immediately think of how great the plots of the recent large scale (and convoluted) events from DC would be with someone like him to head or direct them.

Ja I know. These massive events are making me gatvol. I haven't enjoyed one in a very long time.

Also, the thread is quiet during an activity contest. Come talk kak about comics with me and get some easy activity points.

Lol bro :p. I'm waiting for the next death vigil issue. Amazing Spiderman #14 is also out soon (with the conclusion of Spider-verse), I'm hype about that. Also, loving the hydra undertones showing themselves in Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider Man... I've really enjoyed the Spidey stuff in general.

I'm happy to see that I am not the only one that feels this way about the "epic" events. It feels like each one is trying to outdo the other. Whatever happened to the good old days of Onslaught and Hush and the rest? :D
