How Minecraft’s creator is blowing his millions
What would you buy if you had $1.5 billion? Add a candy wall to that list.

I wouldn't spend $70 million on a house. Would make that money last so I don't have to work again![]()
Afaik that price included designer furniture in the house. You'd be surprised how much it costs to furnish a large house. Add to that a big fancy mansion and you soon end up spending almost as much as the cost of the house itself.
Besides, with R16.5bn you can spend a little before worrying about saving... Just R1bn in investment is enough to settle you with passive income for multiple lifetimes.
“It’s a very stupid way to spend money,†he told the magazine. “But why not? People say, ‘You should invest it.’ So I can get more money to put in a pile? At least if you spend it, it goes back and does something, maybe.â€

You talking rand lol. Firstly If I had shit tone of money I wouldn't come back to sa
Secondly money can be spent very quickly. I would have a nice place not to big. And buy a little gold and silver and live a comfortable life. but thats just what I would do.
Yeah I agree that his splurge is still nothing in comparison to his overall worth. Opulence becomes an entirely different conversation once you reach this level of wealth . I highly doubt that if anyone here had this amount of wealth accessible to them that they would be able to easily refrain from spending similar amounts on their dream homesI talked Rand to put it in context of what most people here are used to. He walked away with an 11 figure amount of money in Rands. ELEVEN FIGURES. That's a crap load of money. You will really struggle to use that up in your lifetime.
That insane house be bought only made a 4.2% dent in his wallet. How many of those house would any person want to buy? Considering a house is THE biggest expense anyone is likely to have, he probably still has at least 90% of his fortune left after spending it on the house, cars and other useless junk.
If he invests only 10% of that money he has another 80% to waste. That is still a cool R13bn to waste over a period of 50 years, which equates to roughly R264mil. That gives him R22mil EACH MONTH while he still invested R1.65bn (10%). He could buy a top house in ZA every month if he wanted to.
Money can go quickly. But even an incredible hedonist would struggle to realistically deplete this much unless that was the express purposeYou talking rand lol. Firstly If I had shit tone of money I wouldn't come back to sa [emoji14]

R1.5 billion is still a lot of money. Subtracting $70 million from that leaves you with... still a lot of money.
Notch is set for life.
nope i would buy a lodge on the border of Kruger National Park and just make sure i have a good internet connection - then i'm happy
