Will Windows 10 be awesome?

any word on when 7/8 users can upgrade to 10? i heard we have 1 year to upgrade for free, thereafter you buy it as normal.

According to the conference some days ago, we're looking at some time in the middle of the year or later, IIRC.

You can't compare current builds to final. I run the current build on virtual and it is quite nice.

Laptop didn't have any driver issues but I know there are many issues with gfx / sound drivers currently.

So, I wonder if my "acquired" Windows 7 will also get a free upgrade :D

Glad I upgraded from my acquired Win7 to Win8(that seemed to work) when they had that promotion to get Win8 for R350, so now I don't have to wonder :D

i'm just worried it will be another vista monster.

so far i'm not impressed with my brothers win10 - he's running on his pc. but since he has he has had hardware problems - strange noises, pc just crashing, force installing updates and constantly rebooting.

Also, what Nimatek said. They are busy with so much updates and fixes still.

Running it since the 1st technical build and still not a single crash, on 3 PC's 2 Laptops. (Update rates can be set under PC settings on how fast you wanna do it)

Either your brother should stop surfing porn or check his hardware cause something is a miss.

i just hope they finally kill of the god-awful METRO nonsense. thats the reason why i didn't want to touch Win 8

Windows 10 will be available as an automatic update from Windows Update

In a media event Microsoft unveiled that their latest build of Windows 10 will make updating from older operating systems much easier than it has ever been before.

Windows 7 and 8 users will be able to update to Windows 10 directly through Windows Update, negating the need for us to burn a DVD or making a USB boot drive to then fiddle about with the Bios. It is great to see Microsoft make the upgrade process so easy now, especially given how it will be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 users for the first year

They're really pushing it, aren't they? I still hope they give us the option of a clean install if we choose to use their free upgrade. It will be annoying if I have to install Win7 or 8 before 'upgrading' to 10.

Embrace the future.
Move with the times or get left behind.
Survival of the fittest GUI.

Or you can do what I did and not use it.

At least in 10 metro is incorporated into the desktop. Not forced as replacement. (not that it isn't easy to bypass metro anyway ;) )

I do have my reservations about the Windows update thing though, the store update from 8 to 8.1 was a disaster !
Spent MONTHS trying to get it to load on my laptop, however my pc updated in one night. Just sucks for us IT professionals who have to update multiple machines :/

3.4gb download per pc is silly.

I already have a WSUS server set up, so it might actually make our jobs easier. I won't upgrade until SP1, or the free year is about to run out. Haven't looked into how it will work with our licensing yet though.
