Dying Light Opinions and Release Date

Got my first gun(s) tonight, got an assualt rifle from a dude that was trying to kill me at a safehouse and bought a pistol from one of the vendors. I haven't really fired them yet, but they sure help in securing airdrops from the bandits. I'll probaly only use them when I really need to for now, e.g. at night when there's lots of enemies that are already aware of me.

I've got quite a large collection of guns as well and they are incredibly effective at dealing with pretty much everything in game except for the brute guys, they eat ammo...

Fire arms bring in some unwanted attention though, they attract those faster moving annoying zombies and in my experience it won't just be 1 or 2, I've had as many as 5 coming at me after using my police rifle (Fucking awesome weapon).

When I need to clear a group of Rais' guys, I just chuck a grenade close to them which attracts virals and their gunfire then attracts even more virals. It's epic.

Guns are much better in this game than in Dead Island too. A headshot actually kills most enemies, unlike Dead Island where they were less effective than melee weapons. The fact that they attract virals is a nice trade-off, though.

Overall, this game is tons better than I ever expected it would be. I was expecting Dead Island with parkour.

how does the co-op work? is it full and proper campaign based? is each player a different story character, like in Dead Island/Left 4 Dead ?

My biggest complaint is that near the end all the challenge simply disappears. I'm about 70% through the story and I just one-shot everything except the brutes. It went from a survival horror to a pure action game pretty fast on the second map. :(

So many games can't manage to keep their difficulty consistent and it's such a pity.

I understand where you're coming from, but I'm actually glad to hear it becomes more like that later in the game. After about 17 hours (and only 13% story progress) I was wondering if I would be able to hold my own against a group of Zombies at some point. I got the stomp ability last night, so I can finally take out knocked down enemies quickly, but groups of Zombies (especially the virals) still kick my ass. I will actually enjoy just killing groups of Zombies later when I'm more powerful.

@ The people that have gotten further in the game.

Do you notice commodities become less the more you scavenge/collect ?
Or does stuff continually respawn ?

I'm thinking of vehicles you unlock and search and collect, do these then stay in an empty state now you've raided them, like chests and loot boxes as well ?

Stuff continually respawns, also you start making some serious cash and you can just buy all the parts you need bud.

I love that there's a quartermaster that gives you stuff every new day.. thats a very nice addition, it's not much but it keeps you stocked

If you enjoy a lack of challenge, then I guess it's good for you. I enjoyed the fact that I had to take my time and pick my fights carefully in the beginning. I don't really see the point of playing a game where I just mow down everything in front of me.

Don't get me wrong, I like a good challenge as much as the next gamer, but I also like mowing down countless zombies. I do enjoy the challenging nature of the game at the moment (especially the night), but I would like to eventually be able to just destroy any zombie that comes across my path.

Agreed, I always hated when games "reward" you right at the end with this super awesome gun/weapon/upgrade which you basically use for the last 10 minutes and then....game over, thanks for playing! WHAT? You mean I can't actually seek revenge on all the shit thats been frustrating me the last 10+ hours of gameplay???

That's where Half-Life did it well I think, they reward you occasionally during certain parts of the game where you just get to mow down zombies (traps) or guards (turrets/blue gravity gun).

So I definately like it if it sorta goes "remember how scared you were at night and sometimes during the day? Look how fun it is now to get some of your own back! You deserve it, you've levelled up enough!"

If the difficulty remains constant (like in Skyrim with "levelled with you" NPC's) it can quickly become bland coz its the same thing over and over and doesn't actually feel like you're making progress. From the sounds of things (I totally haven't played ("bought") Dying Light  )it seems like it makes you actually feel like you're getting more powerful, which is good in my books.

There's a difference between getting more powerful and just roflstomping everything in your way. Shadow of Mordor made the same mistake. About halfway through that game there was literally no challenge left because you could just roflstomp everything in your way.

Feeling more powerful does not have to come at the expense of no challenge. I enjoy games that are consistently challenging, not games that turn into baby-mode after a while.

I take it that's from the second city/town?

I like the contrast between the old and new worlds, architecture wise.
I've played a few more hours today, but I still think I'm way behind the rest of you.
