So I've noticed the price of new PC games is getting ridiculous in the shops lately.

I was in Incredible Deception today and noticed one (Can't remember exactly which.) costing over R450.00.

What the Hell?

Hasn't the Rand to Dollar exchange rate improved?

Is this an official drive by the publishers, distributors or retailers to rip us off and if so at which level should I aim my bile?

I find that R350.00 is the limit of what I am prepared to pay for a game. I'm curious, if this trend continues do you see yourself buying less games?

I used to be a "1 sitting" gamer before I got DSL. Meaning I bought my games and the average games like Fear2, Portal, HL2 EP1+2 etc I finished in 1 sitting. SO yeah I was moaning alot. Since I got DSL and started playing COD4 and 5 online, and league matches and practice taking up all my time, I tend to take WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer with SP titles. For instance. I bought Lego Batman when It just came out, Still have not finished it, as an example.

So now it doesn't really phase me cause I am actually getting value for money as the average SP game lasts me more than 2 months. When my ADSL is down I LAN, or drive to a mates house with DSL so no excuses there for SP games :p
 
With the R/$ exchange rate going into our favor I also don't see how they can be so expensive.

Wait they will hide behind the we trade with EU bull!
 
Just because the R/$ exchange rate puts prices up doesn't mean that when it goes down that prices will come down. People are like that, always looking for a way to make the most money, scam the most people, and generally rip anybody off as long as they're making a fat cut. Prices will not be reduced, and they will call it 'inflation'.
 
Agh yes, I think they adopting the CEO of Activision mentality. "if it was up to me I would raise the prices even further"

While I generally loathe Incredible Corruption, their games are seldom that much more expensive compared to other in shop purchases prices (I am talking about newly released titles). If they are, it tends to be by about R10-50 max from my experiences. They do suck longterm with older titles, where they will still try to charge max prices.

There are so many factors why gaming is becoming more expensive, some I get, others I do not. The thing is there is very little you can really do to change it. Best thing is to vote with your wallet, and try pick up the titles that you know are going to be worth the cost of purchase.

Just be thankful your are not talking about console game prices - those will sometimes make you weep.
 
Don't worry, 90% of SpoOkie's replies come in such a fashion, (well at least the ones I have encountered). It is obviously nothing personal, just a character fault *cough*

agh yes, my PS3 indulgences' is costing me quite a fortune lately... luckily i can always swap them out for other games in the future :o
 
i'm just getting sick and tired of hearing the same crap over and over again. This is nothing new. Stuff gets more expensive over a period of time, that is the economic trend. It's called inflation.

A developer will make something that he thinks has a certain value, he will express this value in monetary terms. So please don't bitch about it on a forum, either you can afford it or you can't.
 
Why don't you come up with some so called 'ingenuity' instead of bitching about the world and hating it so much hmmmm? :)
 
PC gamers shouldn't bitch. Some PC games are cheaper in SA than in the USA. Most AAA new games on PC cost $50 in the USA. That would be R400 at R8/$1, and that's before shipping.
 
You can't compare things like that. The avg salary in the USA is $2500. So if u want to compare apples with apples then that would make it R20 000 wouldn't it?
It's just not realistic to compare things like this

If you use the purchasing power parity then it is still cheaper in South Africa.
