Mortal Kombat X Female Characters Will Be More Realistically Proportioned

he female fighters in NetherRealm's upcoming Mortal Kombat X will be more realistically proportioned than they appeared in 2011's Mortal Kombat reboot.

"The mantra for this game has always been realism; heading towards a more realistic look," NetherRealm's production manager Spiro Anagnostakos said. "So the same thing applies to the proportions where we try to bring things back in per se to where they should be."

Another NetherRealm developer said women will look "more like women do" in the game.

"Exactly," Anagnostakos replied.

As evidence of this, Anagnostakos revealed a new character model for the fighter Kitana. As you can see above, she doesn't come across as having overly exaggerated features.

I'm glad. Some of the characters in MK9 were so out of proportion that they were actually hideous, especially Sonja.

It will be good to have some normal built woman in MK we don't need J-lo's butt and Beancka's boobs and the sort's bigger aint always better :p

From everything we have been hearing about the game as a whole; it feels like MK:X is attempting to be taken far more seriously than it previous iterations.

I think it's a good thing overall actually.

Soooo are you trying to say proportionally challenged females 'in games' don't get taken seriously?

No; what I'm saying is that NetherRealms is trying to make a game with female characters who's looks aren't simply pandering to a particular subset of their fanbase. They want to make a game that cannot be lambasted purely on the aesthetic of their female characters as in the past. They are moving away from their female characters being objects of sexual desire first and rounded characters second.

You can make a character 'proportionally challenged' and serious as well, ie Lara Croft, however this is a different context as the games are different.

Hi Snare, very good explanation.
But in the past it sold games, just think back on almost every fighting game of the past most of the characters were 'proportionally challenged'.

A game where fighters rip organs and limbs off yet a bit of side boob offends.People need to get there priorities straight it is a video game.

I know; but that's the point though isn't it? to change the focus of that. Clearly there isn't much more ground to explore in that direction so now they want to try something else

I disagree with that logic. Simply because blood and gore are the primary export of the game; it doesn't mean that objectification should be a package deal. Also we are fast approaching the point where it is not 'just a game' anymore, so we can't simply brush problematic things aside for that reason alone.
