Official Elite Dangerous Thread

Just something I read over at /r/EliteDangerous:

Now, could this be why I am not seeing anyone, EVER!
I have been playing this game (and sure, having fun with it) since Thursday evening, non-stop. Now I can't believe amongst all my play time recently, that 1) I am in such a secluded area that I am no seeing a single sole, or 2) the player base has dropped that drastically considering all the people in the world that are playing this.

Eh, If I had the time I'd fly over to where you are to check if it is your area or just you. Perhaps I can get some time over the weekend and we can check.
What system are you in? So I can start flying if I have time :)

I think when I logged off last night I was in the vicinity of SEGAIS and/or SILVANITOU star systems. Making my way up to LAVE but I keep getting distracted when I have to dock in order to repair/refuel.
I'm still around those areas and think I'll hunt here a bit as they are mostly anarchy and independent systems. I have now got enough to buy my next ship and wondering what to go for. I wasn't a fan of the paper thin Eagle so now I'm thinking of Viper or wondering if I should grind more to afford the Cobra.

For straight up fighting I would pick the Viper, the Cobra is more multi-purpose (fighting and trading). It does take quite a lot of creds to completely kit out the Viper though, think I spent like 2 million on mine and I could still spend more.
But the Viper is awesome, turns on a penny and is fast as all hell. You'd be able to kill most ships with it, apart from the Python and Anaconda.

I think I still have to finish the update for my E: D, so I'll do that tonight, and then I can atleast find out how many LY you are from me. I'm in the Valda region.

Thanks, it would just be nice to know and to put my mind at ease. Also curious to see if anyone has this issue.

Segais -> Valda ... 9 Jumps / 120.98 ly ... longest jump: 19.80 ly (based on a 20ly jump range)

Ah cool, that is really close. I'll take my Hauler, it can do 30LY jumps at a time :D

Also in a bit of a pickle, as of last night I worked up some decent cash (yes I know, but remember I haven't been playing as much as the rest of ya'll) for another ship.

  1. Do I trade in my Sidewinder in order to afford the Viper with approx 40k to spare.
  2. Do I keep my Sidewinder and save up for the Viper or eventually the Cobra.
  3. If go with the first option, do I use the spare credits to get a secondary Explorer/Trader ship, possibly the Hauler or Adder

I wish there was a way for me to ship my sidewinder from it's current location to my current location, or alternatively just sell it without actually having to fly 100s of LYs to get to it just to sell it.

I has a feels they'll incorporate something along the lines of paying X amount to get your ship couriered to your desired location, or a percentage amount of what your ship is worth. Something like that.

Should already have been in the game imo. I don't mind paying for the service, but it's grinding on my nerves to keep hearing "they'll add this soon" or "they'll probably do this". I didn't buy an early access game, this was suppose to be a released game of AAA quality as we paid a AAA price for it.

I can stand a few bugs on release and what not, possibly more than the average person. But these are critical features which should have been in the game already.

If you need money, the best route is to get a better trade ship. From Sidewinder you should get the Hauler as fast as you can, and then the Adder after that.

To make money fast with the low cargo capacity ships (works well with the Hauler due to the nice jump range) you should go buy rare commodities (I have a list somewhere) and then you fly far away and sell them again. If I recall correctly, the Hauler has 16 slots max (with Shields). You can make about 200k profit on a run of rare goods if you fill your cargo hold.

The rare goods (if you go for the correct ones) are not that expensive to buy, but sell for hellavalot once you fly far away (think it is more than 60LY away or something) from where you bought them.

j/k bro, And I hear you.

All fair and well, but I suck at trading :p Apart from using 3rd part tools to tell me what the best deals are and where to buy and where to sell, I end up making minimal margins or breaking even. Some times even making a loss. My brain can't handle that kind of NASDAQ JSE GALNET thinking. This is why I would prefer to explore in order to make tin.

I can give you a "buy this here, sell it there" trade route that works quite well if you want, so you won't make a loss or small margins. You'd just have to move over to where I am :)

I'll also have a look at which rare goods you can go and buy and then sell to make profit, hopefully you won't have to math too much then :D

I'm still kinda in two minds about that. I kind of feel I'm making use of an "exploit" in the game (hax), but at the same time it gives extra credits.
I've used 3rd part website or stuff that tells you what to buy/sell where, to kind of see how it works, but that was about it. Almost a morale obligation.

Hehe, go and read my first few posts in this thread, and compare them to the most recent few.

I feel the same way. It doesn't feel like I earned it if I read up on a trade route and which items to buy or just follow a recipe. If I figure out how to down a boss on my own without a guide that's far more rewarding and something I'm likely to remember for ages.

I don't want to have to alt-tab to use 3rd party resources to be able to do one of the basic things in game. Why is it that a 3rd party website was able to generate better flight paths than the in-game equivalent?

I got to the spot where I am because Vahl and lordhi said they were playing there. When I got there, they said they found a nice triangle trade route between 3 systems within jump range of one another, so I started with that route. I think there is also a certain amount of luck involved, finding a trade route that is lucrative and short.

Are you referring to the rare trade goods as the "exploit"?

Not at all, I'm referring to using 3rd party sites in order to determine the best rates for commodities, where to buy x low and sell x high to reap the best results.

Edit: By exploits I meant things like this - http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

Aaah oky, didn't know those existed.

I was just suggesting coming to where I am, as this is where I found a nice trade route, but without using a tool or website.

If you don't want to though, a tip would be to buy minerals (silver, gold) at an industrial/mining station (if there is one close-by), and selling them at a technological (forgot the correct term) station.

Thinking of now buying the Adder instead of the Hauler and using that to then move down to Valda, and use it to move cargo and exploring. Sure it could have a better jump range than the Hauler?
