Att Joker: Graphics card query

Well considering R500 + R1500(from old card) = I would only be paying approx R2,000 for a new upgraded card, still not?

I see that one Gigabyte and MSI have both been sold on Carbonite.

I suppose when you put it like that it makes sense.

Well that's the only way I'm able to afford it.

Now I hate to be a pain but this is kinda a lot of money for me and thus decision making is well... Difficult.
Considering what you now know, what option would you personally go for?

With that logic its only costing around R500 for a 2nd one.... :P

Problem is you have a year less warranty and he wants to use the card for at least 3 years or so.

Well that's the only way I'm able to afford it.

I understand completely mate, money is tight everywhere (2013 wrecked me completely).
Please post your full system specs without the 5970.

MSI B75A-G43 Gaming Mainboard
Intel i5 3470
8GB memory

Unfortunately my 2500k fucked out and had to sell half the ram to get a new cpu. But it still does all the I need it to.
I've also connected it up to my 32" LCD in order to play at 1080p.

So, summary:

Sell:
HD 5970 @ R1,500 (hopefully by next week)

Buy:
1.) Second hand Powercolor 280x @ R2,700 (Carbonite, cash)
2.) Brand new Gigabyte 280x @ R 4,197 (From Takealot with a R500 voucher)

Your guys personal opinions and thoughts, what would you do?
The idea is that I don't want to upgrade again for a while, or at least until I upgrade my box in 3 years or so.

You won't sell that for R1500, not to someone knowledgeable anyways. People will only start noting it at R1300 and less. But it also depends on if it's a 2gig or 1gig.

3 year old cards lose a lot of value, especially when the GTX750 1Gig/2Gig is R1800/R2000 new.
They also use 3 times less power, and is significantly faster.

When selling an old card just take 30% of the nearest "new" competitor.

Well done bud.

I was thinking about it last night, what is the absolute max you can spend?
Well this is also why I want to buy from Takealot, to use that R500 credit, means less to pay out of pocket.
But out of pocket I can afford up to R2000 absolute max, preferably R1500 though. Add that to the money from selling existing card and voucher, comes to around R4000.

Not if it costs R500 more at takealot.
Check the GTX960 mini on rebeltech vs takealot.

PRoblem with the 960 is games like the Witcher 3 will make it crawl thanx to that shit memory bus.

Nah it'll fine, the results speak for themselves, it's slightly slower than the R9 280x.
Witcher 3 requirements shows GTX 660 ti and GTX 770
Should be perfect for 1080p, otherwise it's just the games fault.

If OP wants I could "buy" that R500 credit (place order and ship to me) for R400 Eft, either way you'd be better off.

I went through 8 game benchmark results and the 960 beat the 280X twice by 1-2 frames, the other 6 gmaes the 280X beat the 960 by 2-14fps @ 1080P.

960 is a great card but that piss poor bus is its downfall.

Edit: Not to mention there is a 960Ti on the way as well.
So the 960 price will most likely drop as soon as those become available.

Ok, sitrep; my mate has confirmed he will be taking this card next week, and I have/am working a kak huis vol of overtime this month and therefor should be able to afford said price regardless of Takealot voucher.

You say I shouldn't really buy a R9 280x as they are nearing their EOL, would you then recommend something else?

The 960 is the mainstream now, so if something doesn't run well it's the developers fault.
I'm already happy with my R9 270x. Anything above that is just a bonus.

There's however too much of a price gap between the manufacturers when it comes to the GTX960.
Don't know if the ti will stabilize the prices and if the GTX 960 will ever hit the R2500 mark.

GTX 960 @ R2500
and
GTX 960 ti @ R3000

Would of been a huge nightmare for AMD

Honestly I would just save and get a GTX970.

DX12, Fantastic @ 1080P, Maxes any game available, runs cool and quiet, uses very little poiwer.

I've seen a couple of them sell for around R4000 2nd hand or you could always buy a new one

http://www.rebeltech.co.za/geforce-...oc-black-edition-4gb-256bit-ddr5-core-me.html

That would be the absolute best option.

Yeah but Nvidia are idiots.

960Ti will probably be in the region of R4000
960 will probabably stay at around R3000 + until the AMD cards launch.

Problem is, my current card will be gone towards the end of this week, I'm going to need something soon... I'm wary of the GTX 970 due to all the debacle revolving around it. And I'm rather partial toward AMD.

Right now there isn't a card on the market that beats a 970 @ 1080P unless you buy a 2nd hand 290X for around R4500.

If you ignore the controversy it's still a top end card. I have been maxing out every game I've thrown at it and usually getting solid 60+ fps. You honestly can not go wrong with this card it's absolutely beastly. :D
