As developer Visceral Games prepares for Battlefield Hardline’s launch, the studio says it would like to revisit the Dead Space series.

“Many, many people here at Visceral have a warm spot in their heart for Dead Space, and right now we’re busy with Hardline and…other things,” Visceral Games General Manager Steve Papoutsis told Games TM, “but it’s definitely something we’d love to look at again.”

“There’s definitely a lot of interest internally for us to pick that up again at a future date.”

Visceral Games developed all three games in the Dead Space series. IGN reviewed Dead Space 3 and thought it was good, despite some glaring issues. The game failed to meet publisher EA’s sales expectations in 2013. Back at E3 in 2013, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau told IGN that “there’s no reason to believe” EA wouldn’t revisit Dead Space.

A Dead Space sequel may not happen anytime soon, as Visceral Games is reportedly developing a Star Wars game after EA obtained the exclusive rights to publish future Star Wars video games.

In related news, Battlefield Hardline has gone gold on all platforms and regions and will feature easter eggs from the Dead Space series. The cops versus criminals shooter is slated to launch March 17 in North America and March 19 in Europe on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.

I'm gonna pass, Dead space 3 was 2 far off the series history so I've lost interest.

For me 1 and 2 were great games. 3 they tried something different and it didn't work. Some people complain when they try something different, some people complain when we keep getting the same thing. For me they released 2 out of 3 good games. They have at least one more try in my books.

See my problem is what they tried, it was an experiment to rip off their customers, I'm afraid a Dead space 4 will be more of the same.

Am I the only one that enjoyed DS3? I loved the weapon crafting and the co-op was great as well. Yeah, it wasn't as much survival horror as the first 2, but the story was still decent and the game was still fun to play IMO.

I enjoyed playing it 'cause I played it cooperatively. Would not have been as much fun otherwise.

I didn't feel ripped off, I just didn't feel the Co-op worked as well as it could have and I didn't feel as engaged in the game as the previous two. I didn't find anything was terrible, just never felt the need to finish it.

I was talking about paying full price for a game and then having the micro transactions included.

I've played a total of 15 minutes of the first game on XBOX 360 back in the day... Still have it on both Steam and Origin backlogs. Will get to it eventually...

I think this is a first, but I'm actually going to agree with you. I actually really like DS3. It wasn't as much horror, but there were some legitimately creepy sections. I'm thinking the regenerating necromorph sections in particular.

For someone who thought it was going to tank completely, I really liked DS3. Even the microtransactions (which I thought were going to be awful) didn't end up impacting the game. I never felt like I ran out of parts or needed to buy more.

Yeah, I was also worried when I heard about the microtransactions before it came out, but I never felt the need to buy anything in the game. I had more than enough parts to craft everything I wanted.

I also really liked the universal ammo in the game, even though I didn't think I would. The shooting was (obviously) the best in the series as well. I liked how the series evolved from mostly horror in DS1, to an almost perfect balance between horror and action in DS2 and then finally to a more action focused experience in DS3. In my mind it made sense that the series changed in this manner along with Isaac changing from being strictly an engineer to him becoming more of a soldier type character as he got more experience fighting the Necromorphs. I will definitely be interested in a sequel.

And while where on the subject of Visceral games, I would love a sequel to Dante's Inferno as well. That game was seriously underrated and underappreciated IMO.

My problem with Dead Space is one that I have with most forms of horror media. It is incredibly hard to replay the experience . I feel like the things they added to DS3 were an attempt to add greater levels of replayability than what the other 2 offered but I still feel they were ultimately ineffective in this regard. Perhaps if they do revisit the series consider having the game have a non-linear story with multiple endings. It would be a breath of fresh air to the genre overall and would make the game have greater replay value. (I admit that this method would also allow them to justify a larger repertoire of DLC's but that's another tale altogether)
