District 9

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come across that way. GUess I should stick to my day job and Care Bears DVDs.

I think I may have an inflated opinion of myself....either that or I am trying to compensate for something. :o

Don't worry dude ;)

To be honest, the Movie is too South African. Other than that it was very good.

My colleague however brought it to my attention that the Nigerians speak Tswana and a couple of other Indigenousness languages.

I should still get to grips with a South African Sci-Fi movie. They should first have made a couple of Drama's or horror movies (All funded by Hollywood of course).

I thought it was the cats meow, a SA sci-fi movie, with great cgi, awsome story line and sick guns, whats not to like!

I'll be buying the dvd as soon as it comes out, anyone know what the big budger horror movie is they're filming atm? I saw it on tv the other day but cant remember...

I came across the following in my Gmail inbox:

Why is South Africa celebrating Neill Blomkamp's new movie, before it is even released in Mzanzi? Here's why.

1. Americans will finally know where Johannesburg is.
2. It's the first local movie that has serious hope of getting an Oscar, not because it's "foreign", but because people really think it's the best movie of the year.
3. It was made for $30 million, and it made $37 million in its first weekend alone, topping the US box office.
4. That District 9 spaceship solves the burning issue of what we're going to do with used 2010 World Cup Soccer stadiums... if we can just figure out how to get them to float upside down.
5. It wasn't made by Leon Schuster.
6. It doesn't star Colin Moss, the schmodel-chick from FHM with the hot sister, or any of the other overly recycled actor "in-crowd" we're all so sick of seeing onscreen.
7. The South Africans in it sound South African, not German, Dutch, French or American.
8. The Van Der Merwe joke has now gone international, possibly galactical.
9. Thanks to lead actor Sharlto Copley, the sexy South African accent will finally get the international recognition it deserves (Arnold Vosloo set us back by at least 10 years).
10. They're already talking about a sequel. Who said crime didn't pay?

I choked on my coffee, #5 did me in :D
I really, really, really enjoyed this film. Was odd to see good old, dirty Jo'burg in the background there. I canned myself at some of the comments on this film, the ones about the aliens having such simple names, yet the people had such elaborate names, lol. Since when did Van der Merwe become elaborate:p

I think it was filmed well, there are obviously many, burning questions that follow. They built a spaceship man, how do you get that right and then get to a point of starvation. Theres also the whole thing about Wikus spraying half the contents of that bottle into his face, yet they still had enough left over, lol. But all in all, it was still a great film.......with many 'foks', just another day in SA man.

To be honest, the Movie is too South African. Other than that it was very good.
Too South African? I don't watch that many SA movies, so that didn't cross my mind. Also, i try to change the channel whenever SA soapies are on :p

I watched the movie this past weekend with no expectations and was thoroughly entertained and enthralled by Wikus and the prawns. I felt for the prawns, felt for Wikus and his predicament. Will definitely give this another watch to appreciate the movie one more time!

Loved watching this homegrown flick... Must note that all the CGI was done in NZ though... Hopefully one day we will be able to tackle that as well... Really hope they make a sequel... Love Prawns!!! Haha ;)

Sequel? :O Where? This sequel better be epic! Or just as good as the first... well according to the movie there should obviously be a sequel! Damn you got my hopes up now.
